Published this day in the immersive 3-D internet virtual world of Second Life®, by the grace of God in Christ Jesus for His glory, through the internet ministry of dokimos ( http://dokimos.org ), is the Second Life Bible (SLbible). The SLbible Original, once called simply "SLbible", is a utility that displays individual Bible verses in Second Life's open chat. The SLbible is small and invisible and therefore should be HUD attached to your avatar and not rezzed. After the SLbible is attached to one's own Second Life avatar, it will chat complete Bible verses upon request on script-enabled sims. Requests to show Scripture passages are made through the open chat input box, when using the SLbible's command syntax... slbible [book name] [chapter]:[verse] - [end chapter]:[end verse] kjv/nas/asv/ylt/dby/bbe/web/vrv(spa)/jfa(bra)/mlt(ger)/lsb(fre)/cei(ita)/nsb(dut)/u30(nor) Examples... slbible jn 3:16 asv OR slbible psa 23:1-4 OR slbible 1john4:7-8 OR slbible rom 7:24-8:2 For those who frequently quote the Holy Bible in Second Life, this is a great time saver. The name of a book in the Bible does not need to be entirely typed out. It may be entered in a variety of abbreviated forms such as "2cor5:17" for "2 Corinthians 5:17" or "jn 3:16" for "John 3:16". A comma (,) or a period (.) or a semi-colon (;) may be used in place of a colon (:) in syntax. For convenience, the object is small and invisible. This gives the opportunity for choice as to whether or not it is desired for one's avatar to openly carry a separate object that may resemble a Holy Bible. This object is not intended to be rezzed but rather to be worn. Other commands of the SLbible are "slbible help" and "slbible about". Only one Bible verse may be displayed at a time with the SLbible in order to reduce chat spamming. Three weeks after the public release of the SLbible Original, the American Standard Version Bible (ASV) and the Young's Literal Translation (YLT) were made available. On December 13, 2007, the Darby translation (DLT) was included. Three days after that, the Bible in Basic English (BBE) was added. If no version name is entered, the default display translation is King James Version (KJV). Should "asv", "ylt", "dby", or "bbe" be typed in addition to the Bible reference, the verse from an alternate translation will be displayed. Multiverse request capability was added on August 28, 2008. There is a maximum display of 5 verses and with aproximately 1000 character limit on text responses. On September 2, 2008, the World English Bible (WEB) was added along with the Spanish language Version Reina Valera 1909 (VRV or SPA). Spanish syntax has been added to include names of books in Spanish. One week later, the New American Standard Bible® (NAS) was added into the SLbible utility. (www.Lockman.org) On September 17, 2008, the Brazilian Portuguese Bible translation by João Ferreira Annes de Almeida (JFA or BRA) was added into the SLbible. Eight days later, the Martin Luther translation in German (MLT or GER) was included. The SLbible Book (version 1.1) was released October 1, 2008 including the French language Louis Segond Bible (LSB or FRE). Mild code modifications and graphic changes were also made. On October 16, 2008, the Italian Bible translation Conferenza Episcopale Italiana (CEI or ITA) was included. On October 22, 2008, the Dutch translation Nederlandse Statenvertaling Bible (NSB or DUT) was included. On November 4, 2008, the Norwegian translation Bibelselskapets Utgave 1930 (U30 or NOR) was included. ![]() The SLbible Book (version 1.0) was released on January 18th of 2008 and displays Bible verses in similar manner to SLbible (1.0), however, command syntax is performed on channel 90 instead... /90 private [book name] [chapter]:[verse] - [end chapter]:[end verse] kjv/nas/asv/ylt/dby/bbe/web/vrv(spa)/jfa(bra)/mlt(ger)/lsb(fre)/cei(ita)/nsb(dut)/u30(nor) Example... /90 jn 3:16 asv OR /90 psa 23:1-4 OR /90 1john4:7-8 OR /90 rom 7:24-8:2 To show responses privately to one's own avatar and not in public chat, use of the word "private" is used in the syntax. Examples... /90 private psalm 23:1 OR /90 private help Use of the SLbible Book keeps from increasing lag as it is listens on a private chat channel in Second Life rather than on the public chat channel. The SLbible Book receives commands only when attached to an avatar. It does not listen for commands nor respond with Bible verses if rezzed in-world. It is also encouraged that the SLbible Book be used to distribute itself to others by rezzing it in-world. Be certain to set and confirm that the SLbible Book's permissions are to allow anyone to copy and to be for sale at price L$0 to copy. ![]() I have developed the SLbible utility for the simple sharing of the word of God in the world of Second Life, earnestly desiring the further spread of the gospel message. Prayerfully, it is desired that all who read the Holy Scripture passages, which are displayed by this Bible for Second Life, will come to experience the love of God, the forgiveness of all sins, and the free gift of eternal life which comes through trusting faith in God solely through His Son Jesus Christ. As a professional computer programmer for 20+ years and webdeveloper for 10+ years, I am also a Bible-believing Christian and a gospel evangelist in good and honest reputation. Given the fact of previous persecution over the testimony of the word of God, I give assurance that no avatar tracking code nor monitoring is being done by this Second Life object nor by its server script. This is presented faithfully in glory and honor to God. The objects of the SLbible Original and SLbible Book are distributed freely in Second Life and may be copied for others. They are available for free at the dokimos café. The dokimos café is a meeting place for friendly open-discussion about faith. This ministry is in partnership with the ALM Cyberchurch. More about our ministry in Second Life, and how to get to this virtual world, may be found at our page http://dokimos.org/secondlife. The SLbible may also be purchased free for L$0 at OnRez.com or at SLexchange.com. If you have any questions about the SLbible Original and/or SLbible Book and their uses, feel free to contact me by IM in Second Life. My avatar name is California Condor. -Theodore Wright ( contact e-mail: secondlife -at- dokimos -dot- org ). California Condor in SL |
